Grid-down: keeping insulin cold without power

Posted by QuietPrep
This is a serious one. A family member is insulin-dependent and I'm trying to build a realistic plan for keeping medication cold during an extended outage. Options I'm considering: - Frio evaporative cooling pouches - Small 12V fridge cooler running off a portable power station - Rotating frozen gel packs in a good cooler Anyone with real experience? How long can each method actually hold temperature in summer heat?

Frio pouches are great for travel but only hold ~25°C below ambient, which isn't enough in a hot summer. For real outages I'd pair a portable power station (even a small 300Wh unit) with a 12V thermoelectric cooler — that combo held 4–8°C for 3+ days in my testing, recharged from a 100W solar panel.
